Nadella was born and raised in Hyderabad, India, and studied electrical engineering at Mangalore University (B.Sc., 1988). After relocating to the United States, he earned a master's degree in computer science from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee in 1990 and joined the technology staff of Sun Microsystems, Inc. In 1992, he left Sun to join Microsoft, where he worked on the creation of Windows NT, a groundbreaking operating system geared especially at corporate customers.
